Chairperson’s Message
Dear esteemed colleagues of SAFOMS.
Greetings.
Firstly let me apologize for the undue delay in reactivating website of SAFOMS. Actually Covid-19 had it’s negative impact in our life. However we have overcome the situation & returned back to our near normal life. Menopause is a normal part of ageing and should not be viewed as a disease. For some women it can even be a positive experience. However, for many it can have a significant negative impact on their health. We know women all over the world have to spend almost one third of their lives in menopause years because life expectancy is increasing. By 2030, the world population of menopausal and post menopausal women is projected to increase 1.2 billion with 47 million new entrans each year. So we have to take care of this huge population.
Menopause impacts all the aspects of women life specially social, physical and psychosexual. Menopause interferes quality of life negatively. There remain significant barriers for women going through menopause and perimenopause that prevent many for living well. Perimenopausal women need access to quality health service and communities and systems that can support them. Unfortunately both awareness and access to menopause information and services remain significant challenges in most countries.
These challenges are complex and multifaceted. So, we the members of SAFOMS family have to take the opportunity to put our hands together to promote healthy ageing and improve the health and wellbeing of older women by raising awareness, life style modification and joint evidence based researches on menopause.
